The Community Table
The Community Table is an arts-based psychosocial activity that takes place around a large table. Large map tablecloths, miniature bricks, mirrors and magnifiers directly from Art Refuge’s work in Calais will be offered across an afternoon of the Summit to a rolling turnover of people, whatever their role or reason for being there. Seeking to address a perceived need for people to come together around tables, The Community Table has evolved organically as a physical entity and conceptual framework out of an ongoing, extended piece of work on the France-UK border over four years.
Art Refuge, established in 2006, supports people who have been displaced due to conflict, persecution and poverty through socially engaged art, art therapy, training, education and research, in the UK and internationally. As a charity they engage in public discourse and activities through exhibitions, workshops, academic papers and conferences, using social media as an advocacy tool and platform to celebrate people’s creative agency.
